About Us
Fernite of Sheffield has been trading for over 175 years in the steel, doctor blade, saw and knife industry. Originally established as Joseph Fearnehough & Sons Ltd., It was amalgamated in 1992 with Elsworth Ltd., another long established machine knife company that specialized in the woodworking industry. The name was changed to Fernite of Sheffield (Fernite being the registered trademark), following a management buy-out in 1996, it still a privately owned limited company. The ISO 9000 Accreditation was first acquired in 1994 and has been re-certified subsequently every year.
Our stockholding and manufacturing facility has been located in the Darnall area of Sheffield since 1972, prior to that it was located in the vicinity of the Sheffield University but the site was needed for its expansion.
The company has two operations, “Fernite Steel Strip” and “Fernite Machine Knives”.
Fernite Steel Strip specializes in the stockholding and processing of cold rolled spring steel, mild (shim) steel and stainless steel strip.
Fernite Machine Knives manufactures knives and doctor blades for a wide range of world markets from tool steels and high-speed steels, also utilizing the extensive spring steel and stainless steel stockholding facility. Please visit our website at www: fernite.co.uk for further information.
